Emergency Management Area Coordinator (Connecticut DMHS Region 5)

The State of Connecticut, Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is recruiting for an Emergency Management Area Coordinator to serve within the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) for Region 5 (Waterbury.)

Please Note: This Position requires 24-hour on-call status with the possibility of emergency activation. Position includes assignment of state vehicle to respond to critical incidents, including reporting to duty during inclement weather to local, state, or other incident command post as needed, and other duties as assigned.
 

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • LOCATION: Waterbury, CT with occasional opportunities for remote work
  • SCHEDULE: This is a full time position, standard working hours are M-F first shift, however the schedule may fluctuate as this role will be serving in a 24-hour on-call capacity to support regional emergency management needs along with any CT Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations.

YOUR ROLE

The Region 5 Coordinator is one of the five DEMHS Regional Coordinators who provide daily critical public safety support to municipalities and as needed to the Governor's State Emergency Operations Center or DEMHS Regional Offices.

In this role, you will be part of the DEMHS Operations and Logistics unit, working alongside a multifaceted team and other counterparts involved with DESPP and across other state agencies. In this role you will be responsible for daily assistance to the municipalities and the State regarding emergency management mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities.

Duties involve daily assistance to the municipalities and the State including:

  • local emergency operations planning
  • School security
  • coordination of mutual aid
  • assisting municipalities to qualify for Federal Emergency Management and Homeland Security funding
  • Serving as the primary contact for municipalities to request and receive resources in an emergency, and more!

DEMHS Region 5

DEMHS Region 5 is comprised of forty-three (43) municipalities located within the northwestern quadrant of Connecticut bordering both Massachusetts to the north and New York to the west. The southern portion of this DEMHS Region extends into northern Fairfield and New Haven counties, while the northern section of the region is comprised of the whole of Litchfield County. The cities of Waterbury and Danbury are densely populated urban environments while most of Litchfield County is suburban and rural in nature. The total population of DEMHS Region 5 as of the 2017 DPH estimates is 599,573 and the total land area of all municipalities within this region is 1,418 sq. miles. Each DEMHS Region has a Regional Emergency Planning Team (REPT). The Region 5 REPT is the coordinating committee for all regional activities.
