Monitors establishments to enforce federal, state, and city regulations governing issuance of food permits to promote and protect the health, safety and well being of the citizens of Dallas.
Job Description
Overview
The Senior Sanitarian inspects, reviews, evaluates, and analyzes the health and safety compliance of various projects, pools, and food establishments in the community. Provides senior level expertise and training to ensure compliance with related health and safety regulations.
Essential Functions
1 Performs and conducts detailed inspections and monitors food establishments ensuring compliance with all food, health, and safety regulations and precautions; ensures that establishments are environmentally safe and sustainable to promote public health and safety; reviews applications for food trucks and trailers.
2 Oversees and provides professional expertise for the issuance of Food Establishment Permits, Mobile Food Permits, Farmers Market Permits, and Temporary Event Food Permits; reviews, checks, and ensures that all information provided and entered is correct and accurate; inspects to confirm all food establishments have a valid, current, and paid permit.
3 Interprets, applies, and enforces code regulations to resolve any issues that may arise; consults, engages, and communicates with applicants, expeditors, applicants, contractors, developers, sub-contractor's developers, tradesmen, and owners of establishments on the development of project construction and compliance with related codes and permits; manages State Fair code compliance and coordinates all affiliated inspections.
4 Develops and conducts multiple professional development opportunities for subordinate Sanitarians and other code enforcement personnel; provides knowledge on inspection practices, field inspection systems, and other reporting software; train employees on swimming pool and other water body inspections.
5 Attends and participates in professional conference to refine knowledge base and remain up to date on current codes and regulations.
6 Performs plan review of new and upcoming construction projects involving food service or bodies of water; identifies potential code compliance issues and makes necessary adjustments during planning process.
7 Participates in various special projects lending knowledge and expertise of food related issues to ensure safety and security of the public.
8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of health and safety regulations
2 Knowledge of food borne illnesses, cleanliness, and sanitation
3 Ability to perform inspections and determine substandard practices and code violations.
4 Ability to issue citations and communicate with various individuals
5 Ability to preform plan reviews and understand construction terminology.
6 Ability to read, interpret, and apply health and safety codes.
7 Ability to train other Sanitarians and employees, facilitate success, and monitor quality.
8 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
9 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience as a professional sanitarian which must have included at least two (2) of the following:
Food inspection (including mobile units)
Temporary events
Setting mosquito traps
Conducting swimming pool inspections
LICENSES:
Valid Texas Professional Sanitarian Registration issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS).
Valid driver's license with good driving records.
Salary Range
$28.27 - $33.93
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
