NEW HIGHER SALARY: $37,782 - $66,120

The Challenge

We are looking for an experienced Transportation Worker IV to join our Vance County Bridge Maintenance team.

 

In this role you will:

  • Perform manual and equipment operational work involving the maintenance and replacement of bridges, pipe, and reinforced concrete box culverts.
  • Use a variety of skills in carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspection, repair of bridges/culverts/large pipe & headwalls, sandblasting, painting, demolition work, trenching, shoring, lead paint removal, and steel fabrication.

  

What You Bring

  • Experience with traffic control and lane closures on multi-lane roads.
  • Experience supervising and training staff on equipment operations and directing work crew's daily activities.
  • Experience rigging loads for crane/lifting operations, and maintaining/installing erosion control devices.
  • Experience operating at least 2 pieces of the following equipment:  backhoe, tandem dump truck, front end loader, forklift, track excavator, skid steer, or sweeper.
  • Advanced skills in areas such as: equipment operation, pile driving, carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspect, culvert repairs, bridges, large pipes, bulkheads and pile clusters, sandblasting/painting, demolition work, welding, structure inspect, trenching/shoring, lead paint removal, steel fabrication, steel beam repair, or installation and maintenance of erosion control.
  • Ability to obtain a welding certificate through On-The-Job training within 1 year of hire.
  • Willing to attend training/continuing education classes to keep current on all state/federal regulations and maintain certifications in all required areas (i.e.: traffic control and environmental stewardship).
  • Agility to bend and walk on uneven terrain.
  • Commercial Driver's License. (Don't have it?  Still apply! You can get it through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire).
  • Safety toe footwear.

 

Notes

  • You may be required to work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies.
  • A pre-employment drug testing is required, and we will do a background check of your employers for the past 2 years for controlled substances/alcohol testing.

 

Education & Experience

  • High school/GED diploma, and
  • 6+ years of relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
