Life Scientist/Environmental Engineer/Physical Scientist-R4

Summary

This position is in Region 4, Strategic Programs Office, National Environmental Policy Act Section. About Region 4.

This is an office-centered position*--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.

Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

  • Review environmental impacts analysis across media (impacts on air, water and/or land resources) and prepare EPA’s comments on NEPA analyses and other related planning, policy and NEPA documents as needed.
  • Serve as a technical specialist within the organization and coordinates with others in developing NEPA analysis documents and other related planning, policy, and NEPA documents.
  • Perform research on, and in support of, programmatic development of in-depth understanding of industry-specific environmental impacts including: mining operations, energy development (oil and gas, wind, solar), public land management, and transportation.
  • Serve as an EPA Project Officer and/or Contracting Officer Representative (COR).

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.  NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
