Business Consultant - Small Business Development Center

Summary of Job Duties:

The Business Consultant is responsible for providing small business consulting services to entrepreneurs with an emphasis on financial analysis, financial projections, business planning and preparing business owners for capital acquisition. Additionally, this position will oversee the financial training and programming for our Center. This position provides financial projection development assistance and loan proposals to new and existing small businesses; conducts analysis of financial statements in order to identify potential problems and opportunities as well as counsels businesses on achieving and maintaining business financial health; provides consulting assistance to include development of business plans; assessment of current business activities; and conducting and utilizing market research to make recommendations to small business clients. In addition, the Business Consultant instructs online and in person training events and develops associated curriculum; maintains and documents client records and related work activities in a manner consistent with program guidelines; earns 32 hours of professional development annually according to professional development policies of the organization; and adheres to university and ASBTDC conflict of interest standards; maintains confidentiality and performs other duties as assigned in order to accomplish the goals and mission of the organization.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position. 

Regular, non-disruptive, and reliable attendance is an essential job duty, as well as the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with significant course work in business finance and / or accounting

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as a small business owner or consulting with small businesses

Experience working with programs designed to assist small businesses at the federal, state, and local levels

Experience as a banker

Experience with providing training both one on one and to larger groups of people

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of small business finance and accounting

Direct experience with financial statement analysis

Ability to prepare loan proposals for financial institutions

Ability to conduct financial ratio analysis and make recommendations based on the results of the analysis

Ability to communicate financial information to individuals and business owners with varying degrees of financial knowledge

Ability to utilize market research

Ability to assist business owners in developing financial projections

Ability to create, conduct and deliver training in an online or classroom setting

Excellent writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Ability to conduct evening and weekend work

Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state including overnight stays as required


Additional Information:

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.
