P260134 – Paralegal - Immigration Services

Position Summary:   

The Office of Immigration Services at the University at Buffalo invites applications for the position of Paralegal.

The Paralegal will play a key role in the University at Buffalo’s Immigration Services unit and provide immigration support for the university’s non-citizen employees and exchange visitors. The Paralegal will also support the departments who seek to hire non-citizen employees and scholars and will serve as a unit communications liaison.

 

As Paralegal, you will:

  • Help prepare employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions and applications for international employees.
  • Support the administration of the university’s J-1 Exchange Visitor Program.
  • Serve as a communications liaison, including managing departmental electronic mail accounts, updating departmental websites using CRM technologies, and giving presentations.
  • Prepare reports and managing case files, public access files, and departmental records.
  • Support various legal and office functions, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associates degree plus a minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience includes working in a legal field or working directly with foreign nationals in a U.S. higher education environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly and respectfully communicate complex information to university administrators, faculty, researchers, and staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and a working knowledge of digital communications.
  • A commitment to accuracy, and a high attention to detail.
  • An ability to learn quickly and to effectively employ new skills, as needed.
  • US citizenship or lawful permanent residency required as mandated by federal (SEVP) regulations.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing websites using CRM technologies.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced immigration law firm environment.
