Tampa General Hospital Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking motivated and professional undergraduate business students to participate in a hands-on internship experience designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world healthcare operations. This internship provides exposure to both business office functions and human resources operations within a growing behavioral healthcare organization.
Interns will work closely with the Business Office Manager and People Services Director, gaining practical experience in healthcare administration, business operations, financial processes, workforce management, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness. This opportunity is ideal for students seeking to apply business concepts learned in the classroom while developing professional skills in a complex healthcare environment.
Throughout the internship, students will gain insight into how business principles support patient care, organizational performance, employee engagement, and operational success in a healthcare setting.

Internship Responsibilities
Business Operations
- Understands and adheres to hospital compliance plan and code of conduct.
- Respects confidentiality at all times; follows HIPAA guidelines for disclosing information.
- Adheres to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
- Treats all patients, visitors, and co-workers with dignity and respect.
- Always appears professional. Wears name badge at all times. Adheres to uniform standards if applicable.
- Supporting business office processes and administrative functions.
- Assisting with data collection, reporting, and analysis.
- Participating in process improvement initiatives.
- Supporting operational projects and departmental goals.
- Assisting with documentation, workflow mapping, and project tracking.
- Observing how financial and operational metrics are used to guide decision-making.
- Preparing reports, presentations, and meeting materials.
Human Resources/People Services
- Assisting with onboarding and orientation activities.
- Supporting recruitment and workforce development initiatives.
- Participating in employee engagement and recognition programs.
- Assisting with training coordination and professional development activities.
- Learning about employment practices, compliance, and organizational policies.
- Supporting employee communication and culture-building efforts.
- Assisting with special projects related to talent acquisition, retention, and employee experience.

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at the University of Tampa or another accredited institution.
- Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Management, Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
