Respite Care Assistant
For over 20 years, St. Luke Respite Care Ministry has provided caregiver relief for families caring for loved ones with cognitive issues. This outreach ministry is designed for adults who can benefit from a time of socialization and stimulation while providing family members/caregivers with a break for themselves. The program operates Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in an inviting, homelike, free-standing building at 1021 Third Avenue. The staff and trained volunteers design a day filled with activities including exercise, music, active games, crafts, devotion time, and lunch.
Position Summary: Part-time position (21 hours/week). Assists with daily operations of the programs, services and activities of the Respite Care Ministry including assisting with participants and Respite Care Ministry volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with Director, plan and carry out daily schedule of activities for participants.
- Provide feedback and information to families regarding participant’s experience at Respite Care.
- Assure safety measures are observed. Notify Director immediately of any possible medical emergency.
- In absence of Director, assume the duties of Director for safe operation of the program.
- Attend training and continuing education as appropriate.
- Provide input to Director regarding program needs, equipment or facilities to enhance program.
- Maintain current CPR certification.
- Document participants daily in log book.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work with older adults.
- Experience in Human Services field.
- Ability to plan and execute activities.
- Maturity; emotional stability.
- Flexibility.
