Oswego County Workforce New York - Workforce Development Intern (Spring 2026)

Hometown University Internship Program

The Office of Experiential Learning is proud to recruit for and coordinate SUNY Oswego's Hometown University Internship program.

NOTE: This program is designed differently from our traditional internship program and requires 2 hours per week of leadership development mentorship with the SUNY Oswego Office of Workforce Innovation and External Relations in addition to your 8 hours per week at one of our four program sites.

 

 ***All interested candidates MUST be planning to enroll in and eligible for Spring 2026 semester internship credit.***

 

The below internship is one of four Hometown University Internship Program sites for Spring 2026:

 

Oswego County Workforce New York - Spring 2026 Workforce Development Intern

 

Supervisor: Rachel Pierce, Director of Workforce Development

Location: Oswego County Workforce New York Career Center, 200 N. 2nd Street, Fulton, NY

Number of roles available: 1

Term: Spring 2026

Dates: Hours earned between 1/26/26-5/8/26

Hours per Week: ~10 (8 hours per week with your host site, 2 hours per week of leadership development with the Office of Workforce Innovation and External Relations)

Credit: 3 credits of internship for a TOTAL of 120 hours 

Compensation: $16.00/hour - funded by the SUNY Oswego Impact Fund

 

Overview:

The Oswego County Department of Workforce Development consists of the Oswego County Workforce New York Career Center (OCWNY) and the Workforce Development Board of Oswego County (WDB). Together, they serve as a comprehensive resource for job seekers, employers, youth, and veterans. OCWNY provides a wide range of services, including career counseling, resume assistance, job referrals, and access to training programs that align with local labor market needs. For employers, the center offers support with recruitment and retention through initiatives such as on-the-job training and customized workforce solutions. Guided by the WDB, the department collaborates with educational institutions, community organizations, and government agencies to maintain a responsive, high-quality workforce development system. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities of Intern:

  • Understand the role of the Department of Workforce Development
  • Research and recommend strategies to improve efficiency in administering required WIOA surveys and follow-up questionnaires.
  • Transition existing job seeker and business customer surveys to an electronic platform.
  • Develop an efficient process for delivering surveys and questionnaires, including maintaining and updating recipient lists.
  • Identify and adapt additional administrative tasks to more efficient or electronic methods to streamline overall operations.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a junior or senior standing (by credit) in spring 2026
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA at time of application
  • Must be eligible and plan to register for internship credit
