PJM Telemetry & Equipment Ratings Support Engineer Co-op (Hybrid)

PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that plays a vital role in the U.S. electric system. PJM ensures the reliability of the largest centrally dispatched control area in North America by coordinating the movement of electricity in all or parts of 13 states. PJM, acting neutrally and independently, operates the largest competitive wholesale electricity market in the world. PJM manages a sophisticated regional planning process for generation and transmission expansion to assure future electric.

The EMS Support department is positioned close to the control room and real-time operation of the grid, offering front-line engineering support to PJM Dispatch. Has a primary role in the short and long-term design, engineering and testing to keep the EMS prepared for the future and changing challenges to operating the grid. Integrated closely with a wide variety of sister teams; networking, modeling, IT, etc.

Co-op will be responsible for handling incoming equipment thermal rating changes and processing them all the way through to the production Energy Management System. Co-op will be fully embedded in the department and take part in most or all conversations and group activities. Co-op may grow into more advance flows including help managing data mappings and access between Transmission Owners and Generation Owners and PJM.

Required Skills: 
• Willingness to learn and follow established process for making changes to critical systems
• Excited to make a real impact in the operation in bulk electric system within the first month, and willingness to take that responsibility seriously
• Sufficient communication skills to engage with external operations personnel
• Ability to be curious, ask questions, admit errors, learn and grow - a healthy questioning attitude
• Detail orientation and personal discipline is a must - we are not organizing office supplies here - this is a fun and positive and supportive team but the ability to "lock in" and do the 
work with intent and focus is a must

Preferred Skills: 
• Nominal experience or familiarity with basic database structures is advantageous
• Some ability with scripting languages such as Python may open up different and more diverse missions during time with the group
• Familiarity with basic power sciences or major components of the electric grid (transformers, breakers, etc.) is a benefit

This co-op position is hybrid.

PJM will not be providing Housing/Transportation assistance, the successful candidate must be able to come on-campus when needed.
