Market Simulation Co-op (Hybrid)
PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that plays a vital role in the U.S. electric system. PJM ensures the reliability of the largest centrally dispatched control area in North America by coordinating the movement of electricity in all or parts of 13 states. PJM, acting neutrally and independently, operates the largest competitive wholesale electricity market in the world. PJM manages a sophisticated regional planning process for generation and transmission expansion to assure future electric.
The Market Simulation department contains both the FTR/ARR and Market Efficiency groups. The FTR/ARR group is responsible for modeling, operating, and clearing all FTR and ARR auctions run by PJM. The FTR/ARR groups is also responsible for various analysis associated with the FTR/ARR auctions. The Market Efficiency group is responsible for conducting Market Efficiency operations at PJM. The group is responsible for conducting the annual Market Efficiency Long Term process that identifies upgrades for the transmission system that alleviate the projected congestion on the system. This also includes completing the annual Acceleration and Reevaluation analyses. These analyses are intertwined with PJM Planning's RTEP analysis. The Market Efficiency group is also responsible for conducting various market analysis including value proposition of PJM, PA RGGI market analysis and SAA offshore wind market analysis, etc.
The co-op job responsibilities include the following below:
1. Maintain and enhance current python scripts utilized by the Market Simulation department.
2. Create new python scripts/tools to automate various tasks currently completed manually by engineers in the Market Simulation department.
3. Process inputs and outputs of PROMOD, the market simulation tool used by the Market Efficiency group.
4. Support FTR reporting and analysis.
5. Set up and complete PROMOD simulations to assist the Market Simulation group's Long-term Market Efficiency window process.
Required Skills:
The candidate should be self-motivated, detail oriented, enthusiastic, eager to learn. The candidate also should take initiative and be resourceful.
Preferred Skills:
The candidate should have experience with Microsoft Office, Python and other coding languages, fundamentals of Power Systems, experience with databases and queries.
