Automotive Mechanic
Kent County Fleet Services is seeking a skilled Full-Time Automotive Mechanic and a Temporary Automotive Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on a wide range of vehicles, including automotive equipment, light trucks, and emergency vehicles. Work to be performed in a safe, clean, and new state-of-the-art shop or in the field. Uniforms, tools, and equipment are provided.
Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 6 AM to 2:30 PM. That means - no overtime required and no weekends!
** The duration of the temporary position will be 4-5 months **
A successful candidate will have the following skills:
- Solid knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Strong understanding of standard vehicle repair and maintenance practices
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and common computer applications used in vehicle maintenance and repair
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply:
- Electrical schematics
- Mechanical drawings
- Manufacturer's operating and maintenance manuals
- Safety rules, regulations, and work requirements
Essential Duties include:
- Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on County vehicles and equipment
- Install, service, and repair aftermarket police equipment such as:
- Mobile radios
- Emergency and warning lighting
- Sirens and consoles
- Video and body camera systems
- Modem devices
- Mobile laptop/tablet computer terminals
- Work in a safe, clean, and state-of-the-art facility or provide field support as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED combined with two years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair is required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered. Post-secondary technical or apprenticeship training is preferred.
Must be able to work in a standing position for the entire length of the shift and be physically able to lift vehicle parts in excess of 75 pounds.
