JOB OVERVIEW
Supports survey operations by collecting, recording, and processing field data. With regular attendance, this position operates survey instruments and equipment, and assists in the preparation of maps, reports, and documentation to ensure accurate measurements and information for construction, land development, and public works projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts field surveys for construction, boundary, topographic, and control projects.
- Maintain section corners throughout the County, resetting destroyed or removed markers.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments and equipment, including GPS, Robotic Total Stations, data collectors, and levels.
- Respond to inquiries from contractors, developers, property owners, and the public regarding the practice of surveying.
- Entering and maintenance of digital records and files of surveys and corner monuments and ties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- 5 years of experience in surveying, drafting, or a related field.
- Have and maintain a valid Driver’s, as well as meet eligibility requires of “acceptable driving standards” as defined by the County.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, data management, communication, and other software.
- Ability to follow established policies and procedures for confidentiality while adapting to evolving privacy standards and technologies.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships within a team.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment and street maintenance operations.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and project requirements.
- Knowledge of land surveying and construction layout.
- Use Autodesk Civil3D, ArcGIS, QGIS, Bluebeam Revu, along with other related software to compile, review, analyze, and create documents pertaining to land surveying and construction activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in both indoor office settings and outdoor field environments. Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, rough or uneven terrain, loud noise, dust, traffic, and heavy machinery. Employees may be required to work in precarious places and may be occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. The position may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety vests, helmets, gloves, and eye protection. Employees must occasionally lift, carry, or maneuver 50-100 pounds of force, 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10-20 pounds of force constantly.
