 COORDINATING ENGINEER I

CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION

DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION/DEVELOPMENT

Starting Salary: $115,992; Grade: GY-12

Oversee the development of Capital Improvement Program and O’Hare 21 Projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

·         Supervises the review of design plans, contract documents, cost estimates and engineering calculations ensuring compliance with design criteria for all capital improvement projects.

·         Supervises professional and technical staff performing development related activities, prepares and updates engineering review procedures, and updates engineering standards and specifications.

·         Prepares monthly and quarterly design report summaries for management, assesses field reports and other data to verify activities are in compliance with permitted conditions.

·         Supervises engineering review of tenant and capital improvement projects, assigns projects to engineering staff; sets priorities and adjusts workload accordingly.

·         Provides technical oversight of work through project design meetings and other means, and reviews field inspection reports and assists in resolution of field construction problems.

·         Serves as liaison person with a variety of public agencies regarding permit reviews and engineering issues.

·         Monitors engineering aspects of facility start-ups; ensures as-built plans and required information is completed and transmitted to CDA and the program management team.

·         Monitors contracted activities, deliverables, adherence, and performance.

·         Project Management: Represent CDA as owner/client-side project manager.

·         Administer and oversee project activities throughout project lifecycles.

·         Coordinate & communicate with all project stakeholders and regulatory agencies.

·         Design Review: Review project deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, including but not limited to: drawings, reports, calculations and specifications.

·         Provide analysis, recommendations and comments in alignment with codes, standards, emerging technology, and industry best practices.

·         Other duties: perform additional administrative functions to support the technical and operational functions of the Development bureau as assigned by senior management.

                           Additional duties may be required for this position.

    Hours:    8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher in Engineering, plus four (4) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, plus five (5) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position

Depending upon department assignment, field of engineering may vary. Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) is required.  

At the time of employment, positions must have obtained Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in the State of Illinois.

Some positions may require a valid State of Illinois driver’s license.
