Aquatics Center Support
** This Customer Service position typically hires between $12 and $13.20 per hour, DOE. **
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of duties as needed to expedite the delivery of programs/services and ensure safe and orderly operations of the concessions, front desk, and seating area of the Aquatics Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Aquatic Customer Service Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May be assigned supervisory duties as needed.
Examples of Duties:
Assist in new and existing memberships; maintain membership records such as entering, organizing, updating all membership records; process memberships requiring payroll deduction, EFT and credit card drafts; process cancellations and amendments.
Assists with special events, including preparation, working event, cleanup.
Checks party schedule; prepares room schedule for front desk; orders pizza; cleans and sets up party room on day of party; sets out paper products and drinks; checks with clients during party to ensure needs are met; cleans room following party.
Greets and receives the public; acts as receptionist; receives incoming phone calls, provides factual information; takes messages, routes calls; maintains program and activity files; registers program participants for aquatic and recreation programs; take registration information and fees, issues receipts; sells Aquatic and Fitness Center memberships, swim equipment, and swim passes; maintains daily list of registration activities to monitor participant levels and related program needs; runs reports.
Maintains constant alertness and awareness of patron activities to minimize exposure to or threat of incident or accident; enforces rules, disciplines, or ejects patrons for rule infractions; ensures compliance of policies and procedures by all other staff members working the assigned shift; serves as customer service representative; ensures that patrons needs are met in a friendly and professional manner; conducts facility tours.
Operate concession stand and cash register; takes and prepares food orders; sells candy; operates cash register and accounts for cash, gives change; processes concession receipts; balances all revenues with receipts and tape records.
Performs as part of the facility emergency team when an emergency arises; takes direction from the center supervisor.
Performs first aid as needed to assist individuals suffering injuries; completes accident and injury reports.
Performs opening and closing procedures; assures all systems are functioning properly, secures doors and other accesses; assures shift duties are completed, including proper accounting of revenues.
Performs upkeep and maintenance of facility; cleans floors, windows, etc.; cleans work area; sweeps and dusts; monitors general activities in the foyer area to assure safety.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above or related duties.
AND
- Six (6) months general or cashiering work experience.
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications:
- Must possess a Food Handler’s permit.
- Must obtain the following certifications within one (1) month of hire:
- American Red Cross First Aid
- American Red Cross Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Must be willing to work evenings, holidays, and weekends.
Additional Qualifications/Information:
Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of a variety of aquatics and recreational activities; general office maintenance and practice; basic mathematics related to cashiering and changing money; computer operations and various program applications; water safety practices; general principles of supervision; telephone etiquette; interpersonal communications skills; and customer service best practices.
Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and to act resourcefully under varying conditions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public and other organizations; operate cash register; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Work Environment:
Incumbent of the position performs in a climate-controlled environment. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, lifting, and sitting. Occasional exposure to hazardous work conditions such as noise, fumes, heights, slippery surfaces, etc.
