Human Resource Clerk - Parks & Recreation

Your Roles

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Providing administrative office duties support to facilitate onboarding and recruitment in a fast pace human resource environment. This team is responsible for recruitment/hiring/processing over 500 candidates per year.

Support Includes:

  • Enter and confidentiality track personal information into human resource software tracking system. 
  • Interacting daily with candidates on the phone and in person providing assistance with completing online information and in person hiring processes
  • Respond to employment related inquiries from internal and external customers.
  • Troubleshoot hiring challenges for candidates, employees and supervisors.
  • Utilize Excel spread sheets to document and track hiring processes.
  • Prepare correspondence.
  • Apply City and departmental policies while ensuring compliance with governing Federal laws.
  • Maintaining confidentiality
  • Support departmental employee recruitment by attending a variety of job fairs and/or special programs.

Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less - Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor and could include assistance with any HR Bureau service, based on the current workloads and department needs.

MINIMUMS: High school or GED plus two (2) years experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as clerical, call center or dispatch etc.; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

The daily work shifts will alternate with a co-worker during the operation hours of 8:00-5:00 p.m.

Anticipated start date August 21st.

Sample Hours - Approximately 5 hours per day from late June to February. Approximately 6-8 hours in March to Early June.

The schedule may include occasional evenings and weekends for job fairs and special events

This position is being advertised as a pool, and applications will be used to fill current vacancies and any other similar Account Clerk II positions - in the Recruitment & Hiring Unit that become available within six (6) months from the closing date of this posting.

This is an Alpha I position, which may require reporting to work during periods of emergency or inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status.

The individual selected for this position will be housed at a primary site but may be scheduled between other park sites/facilities.

All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.

Some assignments may require split shifts to cover operational needs.

This position does not support Telework Opportunities.

Requires a current and valid Driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements.

As a condition of employment, all employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided an approximate training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.

Experience in a Human Resource hiring office
Experience in data entry/ document processing
Experience in multi-phone lines, high volume customer service trouble shooting such as call center or dispatch
Experience with appointment setting and email correspondence
Experience in employee recruitment
