Violin Faculty Instructor

VIOLIN FACULTY INSTRUCTOR

HOURS: Part-time, in-person, hourly
COMPENSATION: $60-63 per hour
START DATE: September 2025 - During school day, hours pending but flexible, Mon - Friday
LOCATION: Fitchburg Public Elementary Schools (Crocker, Reingold, and McKay)

Groton Hill Music Center is the region's premier nonprofit center for outstanding music education, professional performances, and community engagement programs. Our Music School offers lessons in 30+ instruments and voice for all ages in all musical styles with a faculty of 90+ professional teaching artists. This role involves group violin instruction with students from the Fitchburg Public Elementary Schools as part of our Community Engagement programming. The exact schedule will be determined over the summer as each school finalizes its academic schedule. Teaching will occur during the school day.


 

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The role is primarily:

  • Designing and implementing age-appropriate violin lessons, which includes planning engaging activities, delivering engaging instruction, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning needs, self-evaluating and integrating feedback, and preparing for two annual performances. 
  • Teaching basic music theory and fundamental concepts including rhythm and pitch reading, ensemble skills, and an introduction to one or more non-classical musical styles. 
  • Developing and implementing a curriculum that aligns with state and district standards.
  • Planning and directing two or more performances.
  • Curating appropriate repertoire for the age and skill level of the students, with consideration for the ethnic and cultural diversity of the student body.
  • Providing updates on student progress, addressing concerns, and collaborating on learning goals with the Community Engagement and Summer Programs Manager. 
  • Keeping instruments in good working order and making minor repairs.
  • Helping to design and fully implement an assessment system to document student growth over time.


 

Groton Hill Music School faculty members are responsible for: 1) inspiring and sharing their love of music with their students; 2) setting a high bar for students’ levels of technical skill and musicality; and 3) clearly communicating expectations and working toward shared goals.

Regular weekly teaching throughout the school year is required as is attendance at an annual fall faculty meeting and the completion of occasional clerical tasks. Timeliness and reliability, as well as strong communication practices with both students/families and school staff, are essential.


 

QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates should have a degree in music and a minimum of three years of teaching experience. The ability to model and teach proper violin technique, and to manage a classroom effectively and positively, are required.
