Back-End Developer Intern – Firebase / Real-Time Systems
SKIP IT. – Backend Development Intern (Part-Time)
Remote | $200/mo stipend + bonus potential | Flexible | Mental Health Tech
SKIP IT. is a trauma-informed tech startup helping users skip triggering scenes in movies and shows — think sexual violence, flashing lights, or animal abuse — without missing the whole story. Backed by a provisional patent and currently in beta, we’re building tech that puts emotional safety first.
We’re looking for a Backend Intern to help power our real-time skip logic, user preference syncing, and authentication systems. You’ll work directly with the founder (a Babson student in the Summer Venture Program) and collaborate with our small, mission-driven team of developers, designers, and advisors.
What You’ll Do
• Build and refine backend infrastructure for real-time scene-skipping
• Implement user preference systems with Firebase/Auth or similar tools
• Help optimize database performance and ensure data reliability
• Collaborate async using Slack and Notion
• Contribute to accessibility-first feature design
Ideal Candidate
• Experience with Firebase, Node.js, MongoDB, or similar
• Comfortable writing secure, scalable code
• Strong communication skills — able to explain decisions clearly
• Bonus: Familiarity with Chrome extensions or content filtering logic
• Interest in mental health, accessibility, or trauma-informed tech
• Based in the U.S. or open to async timezone overlap
Perks & Benefits
• $200/month stipend (with performance-based bonus potential)
• Flexible schedule (15–20 hrs/week)
• Potential for long-term growth with the company as we raise funding
• Featured on our website + letter of recommendation for top contributors
• Resume-boosting impact at a high-visibility early-stage startup
• Opportunity to shape a product that actually helps people
If you’re passionate about building tools that protect peace and support real people, we’d love to hear from you.
