STDT 4 – Student Assistant 4, ITS-Davis summer research

 

Job Description

The Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Davis (ITS-Davis) offers a research fellowship program for undergraduates interested in transportation. The objective is to introduce a select group of undergraduate students to the transportation field through participation in our extensive research program. The fellowship will support students for a seven-week period over the summer to participate in ongoing research projects with faculty and graduate students. 

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows will work closely with UC Davis faculty and/or their research team members to support one or more research projects related to sustainable transportation. Students will be responsible for establishing responsibilities with their research team. Responsibilities may include the following: 

  1. Data collection
  2. Reporting
  3. Survey design and/or administration
  4. Analysis
  5. Product/parts design
  6. Simulation
  7. Modeling

Research will be conducted on topics related to sustainable transportation. 

Qualifications

  • Ability to identify key faculty members with whom they would like to work. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact potential faculty sponsors regarding availability and the nature of their summer research projects prior to applying to the program.
  • Comfortable working with data collection instruments, if applicable.
  • Comfortable conducting research and data collection outside of the classroom setting.
  • Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of people, including faculty, graduate students, and fellow undergrads.
  • Knowledge of transportation-related topics, and/or the willingness to learn.
  • Attention to detail and strong writing skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
